    Zamalek Cinema, in collaboration with Zawya, has the pleasure to announce the dates of the 11th edition of the Panorama European Film Festival taking place between Nov 7th and 17th, 2018. Above is the Panorama Schedule with movie showtimes at Zamalek Cinema.


    Bohemian Rhapsody

    Bohemian Rhapsody is a 2018 biographical film about the British rock band Queen. It follows lead singer Freddie Mercury's life leading to Queen's Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day

    Becoming Astrid

    A biopic depicting the early years of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, the world's third most-translated children's writer, credited for more than 100 books, including Pippi Longstocking. The teenaged Astrid Lindgren leads a carefree life with her family in rural Sweden. Eager to break free from her strict religious upbringing, she accepts an internship at a local newspaper where she attracts the attention of its editor, Blomberg. When she becomes pregnant, Astrid makes a momentous decision: she refuses to marry him and instead decides to take care of herself and her son Lasse on her own.

    Cold War (Zimna Wojna)

    A passionate love story between two people of different backgrounds and temperaments, who are fatally mismatched and yet fatefully condemned to each other. Set against the background of the Cold War in the 1950s in Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris, the film depicts an impossible love story in impossible times.


    In the span of twenty-four hours, the fate of various people’s lives will collide and be affected during each individuals taxi ride. They are all victims of the decline of a suffering nation. We drive through the streets of the city of Sofia and look through the eyes of drivers and clients as hope slowly creeps in. We see that each decision we make has a ripple effect on others. We learn that even one person’s death can give another the chance at a new life and that just one simple act of kindness will indeed make a difference.


    Marcello is a small and gentle dog groomer who wants two things, to look after his dogs and take his daughter on exotic holidays. But to fund this lifestyle he runs a side business which has more unsavory clientele and he soon finds himself involved in a dangerous relationship of subjugation with Simone, a former violent boxer who terrorises the entire neighborhood. When Simone exploits him too much Marcello must make a crucial and potentially dangerous decision in order to regain his dignity.


    Rike, 40, a doctor from Europe, embodies a typical Western model of happiness and success. She is educated, confident, determined and committed. We see Rike's everyday life, as an emergency doctor, before she fulfils a long-held dream and sails out to sea alone. But her dream holiday is quickly broken off on the high seas when she finds herself near a stricken fishing boat. Around a hundred people are about to drown. Rike follows maritime law and radios for help. As her request is going nowhere, she is forced to make a momentous decision.

    The Death of Stalin​

    Moscow, 1953: when tyrannical dictator Joseph Stalin drops dead, his parasitic cronies square off in a frantic power struggle to be the next Soviet leader. Among the contenders are the dweeby Georgy Malenkov, the wily Nikita Khrushchev, and the sadistic secret police chief Lavrentiy Beria. But as they bumble, brawl, and backstab their way to the top, just who is running the government?

    The World Is Yours (Le Monde est à toi)​

    François is tired of being a petty drug dealer. His dream is to become the official distributor of the Mr Freeze popsicle in Morocco. But his ambition is smashed to pieces when he discovers that his own mother has burnt his savings. Putin, the local gang leader, offers François an interesting deal in Spain, which he can’t refuse if he wants to get the money back. But nothing will happen as planned and everyone around him gets involved: his disillusioned love Lamya, his stupid former father-in-law, two inseparable wannabe gangsters and his manipulative mother.

    Infinite Football (Fotbal Infinit)​

    Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu’s documentary follows Laurenţiu whose life is dedicated to inventing a sophisticated version of soccer based on a firm belief that to make the game fair, its rules must be changed. Rooted in a childhood trauma, this is his life’s work. Every moment away from his grey office is spent examining and updating his innovations. Although Laurenţiu does not take his eye off the ball, it becomes evident that his hidden ambitions have little to do with sports: he longs for compassion, understanding, solidarity, and perhaps even, a revolution.


    The life and career of fashion designer Alexander McQueen: from his start as a tailor, to launching and overseeing his eponymous line, and his untimely death. Alexander McQueen brought punk back to the world of fashion. An eccentric designer whose opulent shows were often a source of scandal. McQueen, who died in 2010, was much more than just an enfant terrible, ready to provoke and shock with his creative ideas. A many-layered portrait of the star designer, who, thanks to his ambition and instinct, went from being an unremarkable boy from London's East End to one of the world's best-known fashion designers.

    The Distant Barking of Dogs

    The war is rumbling and bombs are exploding in the distance. Ten-year-old Oleg lives with his grandmother in the eastern part of Ukraine, and even though most others have left the area, they have no intentions to escape. With his best friend and cousin Yarik, Oleg drifts around in the wild and picturesque nature that surrounds the village. The innocence of childhood is put to the test, however, as the war of the adults slowly makes itself felt for the boys, and a slightly older boy from a neighboring farm teaches them to use a handgun.

    When the War Comes

    Peter lives a seemingly happy life. He drives a new white SUV, has a pretty girlfriend and recently enrolled at university. However, his real life is elsewhere, as the head of a paramilitary called “Slovenskí branci” that recruits hundreds of Slovak teenagers with the silent approval of the authorities. The group’s goal is simple, to create a model totalitarian community based on military drill, obedience and fear. Peter dreams that one day he will convince the entire society, as a big shot politician.

    Young and Alive (L’époque)​

    In the months following the terrorist attacks in Paris, the youth has taken the night. A community has risen, that looks for belonging in a world they don’t understand and seek to change the rules. Led by new faces and unheard groups, with their values and ideals, they open a new dialog, challenge the state and get ready for a new kind of revolution.

    The Other Side of Everything​

    A locked door inside a Belgrade apartment has kept one family separated from their past for over 70 years. As the filmmaker begins an intimate conversation with her mother, the political fault line running through their home reveals a house and a country haunted by history. The chronicle of a family in Serbia turns into a searing portrait of an activist in times of great turmoil, questioning the responsibility of each generation to fight for their future.

    Our Struggles (Nos Batailles)

    Olivier does the best he can to fight injustice at work.     Eleven-year-old Parvana adores her schoolteacher father, who tells her fables from Afghanistan's past. Using her father's tales, Parvana comforts her brother and gives herself the courage to sustain her dangerous new identity.
